Epitalon and Telomere Research: What the Science Says
Epitalon (Epithalon) is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) that has attracted significant research interest due to its reported effects on telomerase activity and gene expression regulation.
Telomerase and Aging
Telomeres are protective caps at the ends of chromosomes that shorten with each cell division. Telomerase is the enzyme that rebuilds telomere length. Declining telomerase activity is associated with cellular senescence and aging.
Research Findings on Epitalon
Several in vitro and animal studies, primarily from Russian researchers including Vladimir Khavinson, have suggested that Epitalon can activate telomerase in somatic cells. If replicated in broader studies, this would be a significant finding in longevity research.
Current Research Limitations
Most published Epitalon studies have been conducted in cell culture or animal models. Robust human clinical data is limited, and independent replication of key findings is needed before strong conclusions can be drawn.
